Stupid Conveniences

(1 week old)
(6 mo. old)

So, for one of our New Years resolutions we decided to get Ayden off of his pacifier (aka. poody).

We wanted him to be off of it by 1 year old, but it didn't really work out. We didn't want to have to worry about it by the time all the holidays came around, so we waited.

Thankfully he only uses it in the car and to sleep. We took it away on Tuesday night and Wednesday was probably the worst day EVER!!! Poor Ayden was SOOO tired, but couldn't sleep. He doesn't like us to touch him when he sleeps (comfort issues), so I couldn't even comfort him. It was so sad! I've never been so frustrated in all my life! He's doing better now, but still struggling a little bit.

I really wanted him to be weened before he could talk, but now I'm starting to wonder if I should have waited until I could make up some story and have him believe it. Anyone got any suggestions for my next child?

For my first two we cut holes in the tip of each one, so it doesn't do it's job anymore. They get sick of there being no "suck" to them and loose interest. We'll need this trick again sooner than later with Eli.

We cut the tops off Alexis' so that we could give it to her when she asked for it but then she would choose not to use it because it bugged her. But that's only worked to stop using it during the day, she still has it for naps and bedtime. We have decided in a few months to go to Build A Bear and have her make a bear and put the pacifier inside of it so that she can have her pacifier bear to comfort her when she sleeps. We'll see if it works! Good luck, you are stronger than I am!

I can't remember what we did for our kids. They were all "binky" addicts. Somehow they stopped. But I know what you mean about doing something maybe too soon. I told Christine about Santa when she was about 10-11. She was devastated. I promised I would not do the same thing to Marie. I let her find out about Santa herself. She was about 12-13. We learn alot from the first kids, poor things.

Brody is the same way about his binki and I'm a little worried about this day to come. Hope it all goes better... Great ideas as well, I think I just may use them!

My kids just suck thier fingers, it's awful because I can't throw that away!! But I have a friend who cut the tip of the binki off so he couldn't suck it and eventually he just gave up and threw it away. Like the baldwin's comment. I love the build a bear idea!!

It's so much easier when they're younger! Stick with it if you can! Plus, Christian's speech impediment was caused by his binky because his tongue muscles developed wrong and he only used his to fall asleep. Good luck. It was atleast a week of bad, bad nights, but it get better!
